THE 25-member Opposition are glad they had achieved their goal.
Leader Patrick Pruaitch said through all that had transpired in the past three weeks, “the opposition stands ready as a team to work with Prime Minister James Marape’s new government”.
“We heard the people’s cry and we started the call to change the former Prime Minister (Peter O’Neill) and we have archived that,” Pruaitch said.
“So we are happy to say that this week was a successful week for us in the Opposition.”
Pruaitch said the Opposition’s move to nominate Sir Mekere Morouta was a strategic one to ensure that there were three candidates for the prime minister’s seat.
“But basically, because of what transpired over the past three weeks, many of us voted for Marape based on that understanding we had in Laguna,” he said.
“The new prime minister will also be inviting some of us to join his cabinet and we are looking forward to it.”
Pruaitch thanked the Opposition MPs for standing together “through thick and thin” in the past few weeks.
West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou has joined them taking their number up to 25.
