THERE are no excuses for the loss, the Papua New Guinea Hunters players just switched off in their 25-12 Queensland Cup rugby league loss to the Ipswich Jets on Sunday.

SP Hunters coach Michael Marum said the players saw the 12-0 lead and just switched off.

Marum said he was disappointed but gave credit to the Jets who wanted the win more than his side and played for it.

“We lost our way and never found it to the final whistle,” Marum said.

“It’s unacceptable at this level and we have no excuses for the loss,” he added.

“We accept all the blame, but apart from the negatives there a lot of positives that we took away from the game.”

Marum freely admitted that his side lost their focus during the crucial period of the match when the result was still in the balance.

Marum vowed to correct the problems at training this week.

He said the players would have medicals to assess their injuries yesterday, before they announced their squad for the weekend.

“We have Tweed Heads Seagulls this Saturday at home.

“They (Seagulls) are coming off a 12-8 win against the Mackay Cutters and this makes for a tougher challenge at home.”
