We need to tighten our laws

IT is with great interest that PNG is one of the few countries that allow failed politicians to stand for elections.
How can a former MP, who has been disqualified from public office by a leadership tribunal, be allowed to contest in the elections again?
In most countries, when a parliamentarian is implicated and eventually disqualified from the office, he or she is banned from running for public office for life.
There were a number of members who returned to parliament after being dismissed in the previous terms.
Can the relevant agencies such as EC and ELRC review the applicable laws and make necessary changes so that the leaders who have been found guilty cannot stand for public office again?
