We never had doubt: Lakhan
The National, Friday July 3rd, 2015
PACIFIC Games Council chairman Vidhya Lakhan said yesterday there was never any doubt the PNG Government and the Games Organising Committee would deliver the Games.
This, he said, was contrary to doubts raised in the local media in the past months about venues being completed in time.
“We never doubted the Papua New Guinea Government and the Games Organising Committee in their ability to bring the Games to the Pacific, and now we’ve seen some of the best venues in the region,” Lakhan said.
Lakhan said as owners of the Games, the Pacific Games Council was always concerned about the venues being ready since day one.
“What happened in PNG in terms of preparations happens in every Pacific Games and it is understandable about the host country being under pressure.
“From our timing, we normally want venues to be prepared in two to three months before the opening ceremony but after all, in most occasions in the past, that has never been the case, but still, we’ve seen success in the delivery of the Games,” Lakhan said.
“The people and Government of PNG did a very good job.”
