We will do what Govt failed to do: Basil
The National, Thursday February 12th, 2015
DEPUTY Opposition leader Sam Basil says the alternative government will do everything that the current government has not done.
He was speaking in Parliament yesterday when supporting Opposition leader Don Polye in presenting the alternative government’s policies.
“The Opposition has been critical of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 budgets given the many opportunities that we have missed and the lack of tangible effects on the people of Papua New Guinea,” Basil said.
“We have stated year in and out that it is the budget for the people and the ordinary citizens of Papua New Guinea.
“In reality, many of our people are forgotten with many lost opportunities.
“They were talking about LNG and even today landowners are still waiting for the benefits in their immediate communities and many of our people only hear of the words ‘huge unprecedented 12 years of economic growth’, which is well over the international average with more than 6 per cent growth rates. “So we must look at alternatives which must empower the ordinary people.
“We believe that it must be agriculture and the rural industries that will sustain and supply the materials for our agro processing and small manufacturing sector that will underpin the safety net of our people.”
