SECURITY guards at the gate to the Mt Hagen Courthouse have warned people entering the court premises not to carry offensive weapons inside.
They have so far confiscated pocket knives, bush knives, axes, screw drivers and guns.
Supervisor Chris Wamp and his guards confiscated more than 10 mostly pocket knives since June.
Wamp said people carrying weapons would be handed over to police.
“A court is not a place for you to carry weapons inside,” he said.
He urged people wanting to enter the court house to leave weapons at homes and dress up properly before coming to the courthouse.
Wamp said smoking or chewing betel nuts in the court premises were forbidden.
In addition, no one under the influence of alcohol will be allowed through the gate.
The same rules apply to the court registry building at the back of the courthouse.
“We are not allowing police or lawyers to go inside and check the files like in the past. Now, they have to go through the front counter. Officers working inside will serve them,” he said.
Wamp said starting next year, they would apply a dress code at the courthouse and registry office.
“We will not allow anyone with round-neck T-shirt, dirty clothes, jeans, overcoat, betelnut stain on their lips to enter court premises.”
