A WOMAN who sells bilum says if the Government wants to promote tourism in the country, it should support local businesswomen to promote their products.
Jenny Pite, from Southern Highlands, has been selling colourful bilum at the Boroko craft market, in Port Moresby, for seven years.
She said most times, she makes K100 a day, while other times, she goes home to Wild Life empty-handed.
Pite’s bilum prices range from K20 to K50.
She also weaves bilums for people who ordered.
Pite said tourists rarely visited the market.
She said proper facilities should be in place to promote and sell the products.
Meanwhile, Tourism Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur told the tourism expo in Kokopo this week that more opportunities should be given to locals to participate in tourism projects.
