PAPUA New Guinea’s weightlifting train-on squad returned to the country after undergoing two-weeks’ intensive training at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in Mont Dore, Noumea, New Caledonia.

Team Manager Lakani Oala said on arrival at Jackson International Airport that he was happy with the training especially the weightlifters making use of the state-of-art equipment at the institute.

“The training should been here but the federation decided to take them abroad.

“Similar equipment will be used here during the 2015 Pacific Games, and it’s good for them to get used to them (equipment),” Oala said.

Each member of the team performed well at the new training environment and they are ready for bigger challenges when the PNG Weightlifting Federation announces its training program later in the week.

The manager said they had to leave behind elite weight lifter Sandra Ako to go through her next stage of training.
