PNG weightlifters yesterday returned home with two gold, a silver and a bronze from the Commonwealth Weightlifting championships in Penang, Malaysia.
The toast of the camp, Rita Kari collected two gold medals in the senior and junior 48kg divisions while another seasoned campaigner Kathleen Hare lifter her personal best in 48kg to win the bronze while Guba Hale won silver in the 69kg division against four other lifters.
Attempts to contact coach Douglas Mea last night were unsuccessful especially on their final total lift.
Team manager Frank Robby said Kari did very well lifting against 11 other  other lifters to win the two medals.
He said he was also proud of the two other women who competed well to collect medals for the country.
Robby said in the men’s division, Morea Baru finished 5th in the senior division while 6th in the junior division of 56kg division which was a very good result competing against other Commonwealth countries
He said Kari’s brother, Steven came fifth in the seniors and and fourth in the juniors in the 69kg division.
The 16-year-old Hanubada looks very promising if he continues and concentrates on the sport like his sister.
The third male lifter Moses Wak finished a disappointing 13th  from the 14 lifters in his division.
Robby thanked their major sponsor Trukai Industries and the PNG Sports Federation for making everything possible for the PNG Team.
