Welcome eyed for visiting high court judge

Highlands

THE Nipa-Kutubu district administration in Southern Highlands is preparing to receive Judge Stephen Kassman for two National Court Circuits at Nipa station.
Mendi residential judge Justice Stephen Kassman will be in the district from July 1-7 and again in October.
District planner Robin Tuna said this would be the first time for a National Court sitting to be held in Nipa and the district administration, police and the people of Nipa were preparing to receive the Judge and his team. “On behalf of the district development authority and people of Nipa-Kutubu, I welcome the decision of his Honour Justice Kassam, the resident judge of Mendi, to conduct two of its national court circuits in Nipa,” he said.
“This will strengthen the DDA’s law and justice sector policy which become the district’s five pillar policies apart from health, education, infrastructure, capacity building and small to medium enterprises businesses.”
Tuna said local MP Jeffery Komal would welcome the judge and his team on July 1 when the national court circuit starts.
He said the conference centre of the current Powi Centre building had been converted into a court chamber to accommodate the court.
He said most cases were criminal matters with 40 cases from Nipa listed for hearing.
Komal confirmed with The National that he would be with his people to welcome the judge and his team.
