Wemin flexing for a top three finish

MR PNG Lucas Wemin needs moral and financial support to compete at the amateur bodybuilding world titles next month in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
This year’s PNG national champion was determined to strut his stuff on the world stage but it would only come to fruition if generous corporate houses gave him the much-needed support to represent PNG at the pinnacle international amateur muscle show.
Wemin, who has already started training and dieting for the world titles after coming off the national championships last July, said he was totally committed to his training schedule even though he had doubts on whether he would secure enough funding to meet his expenses.
“Things are going good with training, but it would be great to have more support for the world titles as I am preparing to make the top three in my weight category,” Wemin said.
Wemin plans to drop from his regular 75kg division down to 65kg in the hopes of increasing his chances of reaping a top three finish.
“For the world titles I’m moving down to 65kg from my normal 75kg because I can look a lot sharper at that weight, and my muscle definition will be very good.
“I think I can look big and ripped (defined) at the same time so that will give me a good shot at the 65kg title or at least finish in the top three,” Wemin said.
The purse for a top three finish is a motivational factor as well with a first prize of US$5,000 (K15,000), second US$3,000 (K9,000) and third US$2,000 (K6,000) prompting the rock-hard Wemin a glint of anticipation in his eyes.
But that was not his only reason for pulling out all stops in his preparations for the biggest event of the 35-year-old’s career.
“I want to do well for the country and put PNG on the map, the bodybuilding world stage.
“If other PNG athletes can win at international contests and bring back prizes why not me, I believe I have what’s required to do well,” he said.
The Amateur World Bodybuilding titles in Dubai, will run from Nov 3-8 with Wemin’s competition day scheduled for Nov 7.
Wemin and team manager, and recently elected PNG Bodybuilding Federation president, Ronald Haihavu, are scheduled to travel to Dubai on Nov 2.
