LUTHER Wenge’s primary school teacher firmly believes his former student will retain his Morobe regional seat.
Yawar Kilimbu, a Biangai landowner leaders’ spokesman, said he taught Wenge from Grade 3 to Grade 6 at the St. John’s Lutheran Primary School in Mumeng.
He was confident his former pupil would win the seat because the majority of rural Morobe supported him.
He said Wenge stood against foreign domination and was a champion defender of the constitution.
“He takes on issues of national importance on behalf of his people and makes us proud to be Morobeans,” Kilimbu said.
He predicts that Wenge will take off when counting begins in Menyamya, Kabwum, Markham and Finschhafen.
After count 10, Wenge was leading with 2,829 votes. Kelly Naru was on 1,935 votes and Abraham Wayum 518 votes.
Naru had moved ahead when counting started last Friday when five ballot boxes from the Bukawa coast were counted.
Wenge had polled steadily but is expected to surge ahead with counting now into his stronghold of Nabak.
