ADEX Wera makes his return to the Papua New Guinea Hunters starting side for their round-12 clash against the Redcliffe Dolphins in Brisbane on Saturday.
Wera replaces Brendon Nima who was ruled out with a rib injury which he sustained during last weekend’s win over the Souths Logan Magpies.
Alongside Nima on the injury list is McKenzie Yei, who will also miss this weekend due to an ankle injury. Replacing Yei in the second-row is Epel Kapinias.
Coach Michael Marum welcomes back the veteran Hunter as they look to secure their second win in a row over the 10th-placed Dolphins.
“His name has been put down to replace Brendon but he’s got a hamstring injury so we’ll have to do a proper check on him (Wera) before we take the team down on Friday,” Marum said.
“If he doesn’t travel then we will have to take Shane Haro and have him start off the bench and push Ase (Boas) up.”
Defending champions Dolphins, who have one win more than the Hunters, will look to retain the Stan Joyce Cup.
Marum remains weary of the task ahead for his men as they look to snatch their third win of the season.
“Redcliffe are just above us, they haven’t been doing well but they’ll be tough at home,” he said.
“We’ve never won against them since 2016.
“They came last year and beat us twice. They were the best team last year and I know they’ll be tough at home. We want make sure we concentrate on our game.”
