Why weren’t police, guards taking control?

Letters

THE looting that took place after some shops in Boroko caught fire is an embarrassment to the National Capital District police and security companies which were supposed to protect them.
The police clearly lack the know-how on crowd control and were unable to do anything to stop the hooligans, criminals and general public from taking advantage of the situation to steal from the shops.
Time and again the police are quick to pull the trigger but do they have any programmes in place to train and equip themselves to control large crowds?
If it is true that some policemen were part of the group that looted the stores then what can we say of such behaviour from those who are supposed to have sworn an oath to protect people and property in this country?
It is a shame the mindless people were not prevented from stealing with impunity in front of their eyes. Come on, people. Have some sense of responsibility for your community.
These shops pay taxes to the Government and provide employment for your people.
How could this be allowed to happen in the nation’s capital city?
It is a shame indeed.
Our people, including the police, have a long way to go in changing their attitudes towards everyday responsibilities and having that respect for others.
Those who set up businesses go through a lot of sacrifices to provide services and why can’t people show some respect.
Our people really have an attitude problem.
Shame on all those who took part in the looting.
