WEST Eagles continued their dominance in the A-reserve division with a 94-8 thrashing of newcomers Alavana Swans in round five of the Port Moresby Australia Football League competition at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
The Eagles, with more experience and class, were started slow after the Swans opened the scoring with their first goal of the match through forward Manu Laka.
Poor defence from the Swans would invite the Eagles back with six goals in the first half while the Swans were able to bag only two behinds in the third and fourth quarters.
Another seven goals going to the Swans would see them go clear on the scoreboard.
More controlled kicking allowed them to finish strong with 13 goals, 16 behinds (94) while the Swans were only able to finish with one goal and two behinds (8).
Meanwhile, Swans remain optimistic in their inaugural season in Port Moresby with the majority of players coming from Hula village along the Rigo Coast in Central.
“The boys have gone through three weeks of training before coming in, most of them haven’t been really exposed to the sport,” Swans head coach Jack Dick said.
“Back at home, the popular games are volleyball and cricket.”
“So we’ve mostly been giving them ball drills.”
