West Papua issue

Letters

THE Melanesians on this side of the island of New Guinea should air our voice for our voiceless fellow Melanesian brothers and sisters who are on the other side of the island under the Indonesian rule which at this juncture, feeling the pain from the Indonesian military forces and genocides is going on their own lands in Papua.
According to media reports, there are more deaths and suffering with the number accumulating up to more than 200 people dead last week.
PNG is the biggest Melanesian state in terms of population and its geographical size and is sharing a land boundary with Indonesia.
When I incorporate other Melanesian states, our geographical size is two times the Russian Federation and our population numbered up to 30 million.
So PNG knows exactly what is really going on and what pain these Papuans under Indonesian rule encounter today.
PNG should be the only Melanesian country that, apart from other Melanesian countries, should bring this matter to the world’s higher authorities such as UN, the international court of justice base in Hague and other means to intervene.
Over the past decades, the Melanesian giant has been so silent in fear of the Indonesian military and this persistent problems that are faced by the West Papuans is nothing new but is culture.
This is the 21st Century where everybody’s are well educated and PNG should not watch this for so long as it did in the past.
Now is the time which PNG government should go forward and joints hands with our Melanesians neighbours and Australia and New Zealand and advocates for them.
Please enough of fear and stand up rather than remaining calm of fear.
Let the world know what is happen there.
