West Papuan Warriors beat Philippines
The National, Wednesday February 10th, 2016
THE West Papuan Warriors beat the Philippine Tamaraws in a curtain raiser for a 13-a-side international rugby league match in Sydney, Australia, last Friday.
The Warriors beat the Tamaraws 54-8 in Cabramatta, before the main Philippine Admiralty and Serbian match.
Warriors captain Tala Kami said that they were invited by the Philippine National Rugby League to play against their development side in this match sanctioned by the International Rugby League Federation.
“It was a good game. We were also involved in raising awareness about on-going human rights abuses in the Indonesian province. The team was formed to advocate for free West Papua in social activities apart from the political forum.”
Kami said that the PNRL invited them after learning of their participation in the nine a side Port Moresby rugby league Fairfax tournament last October.
