A PROVINCE has commended the National Procurement Commission (NPC) on its initiative to establish provincial and district procurement committees.
Western administrator Robert Alphonse Kaiyun said NPC’s commitment to bringing the commission into the provincial and district level had made it easy for them.
“Western was one of the last provinces that wrote to the NPC to facilitate the establishment of its procurement committees but we were one of the first to have our members sworn in,” he said.
“The NPC and its management’s initiative to establish committees should be highly commended.
“They have done a tremendous job and I commend the chief executive officer Simon Bole for his leadership to bring Waigani closer to us through the delegation of NPC board powers.”
He said it was the right thing to do because many projects and development initiatives depended on the commission’s programmes and activities.
Bole said the NPC was not like the former central supply and tenders board that worked under the old management.
“The NPC now works under new leadership and new visions and that is to get the job done and serve the people and the country,” he said.
He said to date 11 provincial and 30 district procurement committees had been approved by the NPC board.
“Out of the 11 provinces, Western Highlands, Central and Western were successfully sworn in while others are yet to be sworn in,” he said.
Bole said out of the 30 districts that had established their committees only seven were sworn in.
He urged those provinces and districts who were approved by the board to contact the NPC and arrange their swearing-in ceremonies.
“Those that have not established, it should be your immediate priority because your purpose as Members of Parliament, provincial administrators or chief executive officers of district development authorities is to serve your people.”
