Local MP Roy Biyama and his five LLG presidents were on the ground during the distribution.

He said the rationing of rice, tinned fish, noodles; sugar and tea was done successfully.

Biyama said the distribution for the affected areas of Gogodala and Bamu LLGs were at Kawito and Kamusi.

“The communities include Samakopa, Lake Cambell, Wawoi Falls, Musula,” he said.

“For the  Nomad LLG, food rations were dropped off at Nomad station, Mougulu, Suwabi, Puma, Hesalabi and Abi airstrips for further distribution using chopper to surrounding communities as these places are inaccessible by road,” he said.

He said this first batch of relief supplies were purchased with K400,000 made available by the office of Prime Minister and the NEC.

“More than 4000 bags of rice were distributed fairly to affected communities and villages,” he said.

The MP  used his district services improvement programme funds to purchase the complementary food rations such as noodles, tinned fish, sugar and others to ensure his people were well fed.

“The relief supplies were flown in from Mt Hagen on a plane and a chopper which were chartered by the Prime Minister’s Department.” He said he has purchased more relief supplies using DSIP funds which would be distributed to affected communities as well.

“Relief supplies for Lake Murray will been dispatched to Boboa, Aiambak and Obo stations for further distribution to communities using water transport,” he said.
