Western H’lands decider deferred

THE grand final for the Western Highlands Challenge between Togoba Magani and Kui Raiders has been deferred to March 8 during Enga and Southern Highlands challenges at the Rebiamul Rugby leagueOval in Mt Hagen.
It was cancelled due to poor light with the capacity crowd of about 3,000 people left disappointed.
Pool A leaders Kui Raiders beat Mul Norths 14-10 and Pool B leaders Togoba Magani edged out City Settlers 7-6 during the semi-finals on Sunday.
After the two-day event, the four teams that qualified for the semi-finals were Togoba Magani, City Settlers, Mul Norths and Kui Raiders.
The eight teams that participated were Baiyer Roosters, Dei Kuri, Togoba Magani, Mul Norths, City Settlers, Kui Raiders, Kum Tigers and Haco Spiders.
They were grouped into two pools –  A and B.
Pool A teams were City Settlers, Kum Tigers, Haco Spiders and Kui Raiders.
Pool B teams were Togoba Magani, Mul Norths, Dei Kuri and Baiyer Roosters.
Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup chief executive officer Timothy Lepa (pictured) confirmed that the Enga and Southern Highlands challenges would be held at Rebiamul from March 7-9.
He challenged the two coordinators of the two provinces to finalise all arrangements for their teams to kick off the games in two weeks time.
Meanwhile, the grand final of the Southern Region Challenge will be held this Sunday at the Sir William Skate Oval in Kaugere, Port Moresby.
The officials of the Waigani Ira Lais held discussions with the CCIC board and the national judiciary and agreed to pay their K3,000 fine before taking the field on Sunday against Whitehaven Lagaip Brothers.
The Ira Lais were fined after coach Andrew Andiki abused a match official during the quarter-finals earlier in the month.
The other match will be between Six-Mile Storms and Dep Eels.
Sports and Pacific Games Minister Justine Tkatchenko and National Capital District Governor Powes Pakop are expected to officially kick off the game.
Parkop is also expected to present a pledged K40,000 sponsorship to CCIC management on the day.
