WESTERN Highlands’ football fraternity has been urged to work together if they want to receive more support from the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA).
Mt Hagen Soccer Association president Samuel Kini said that after the sport’s national governing body facilitated a course for referees in the province.
He said the course was an eye opener for the association after 10 years since they were accepted as a member association of PNGFA.
“I commended PNGFA president John Kapi Natto and his executives for coming down to visit our rural association,” Kini said.
“It is a blessing for us.”
The course was conducted by Fifa-recognised instructor Jimmy Warai and Mamose referee fitness instructor Noah Kusunan. A total of 30 referees, nine of whom were women, attended the week-long course.
During the course, the association — with the instructors’ assistance — appointed Hungia Aiyoka as their head of referee along with technical instructors Stonie Sam, Marshall Lorry, Gloria Yere and Dorothy Forave.
Kini said him and his executives were working together to help restore Western Highlands football to its former glory.
“With a team of young men and women under my leadership, we want to improve the standard of the sport through development programmes in all departments,” the former Papua New Guinea international said.
