THE Western Highlands government is now involving the people in the development work of the province, says administrator Stanley Maip.
He was speaking yesterday at the presentation of two new portable sawmills and chainsaws to Baisu jail and and the community of Papikola, in Nebilyer district, Western Highlands. The equipment will be used to build two high schools. Maip said Governor Paias Wingti wants the people of the communities to be involved in education and housing projects.
One of Winti’s priorities is the development of education in Western Highlands. Maip said Wingti wants people to be responsible for the projects and look after public facilities.
In these projects, the government provided the materials to build the schools and the locals gave the land and provided free labour.
“The government has already delivered 16 new high schools during the last five years,” he said.
