Western idea might not work for PNG

Letters

THE consequence of this good transported scholarship idea from well-developed countries has its bad omen.
Papua New Guinea has not got the absorptive capacity to transport or copy the developed countries ideals, given the countries have wealth, stronger economy and greater employment opportunities, and unemployment percentages kept the average rate each financial year.
Government has a strong policy with the commercial banks to institute measures to lend student scholarship loans with stronger measures to recoup the payments.
Given the inadequate opportunities open to students for employment during their pre-service studies and after graduating facing insecure employment and career path employment paying the scholarship loans will be a vulnerable policy for those students who chose to do so, and for the government and banks to recover the money given the lack of employment opportunities and very high graduate unemployment rate.

  • No Dr., this is a program that will certainly assist those of us who come from disadvantaged families. We never had such loan facilities in the past and like present, many that have come before us couldn’t continue their studies because of that. This program is better than the free handout that the government pays in the form of TFF education. At least those of us that benefits today will one day have to pay for it so that others down the line in future can also benefit from the same.
