Western people’s plea

Letters

I EXPRESS my grievances and dissatisfaction regarding the above on behalf of the people of Western.
Western is one of the resource rich provinces in PNG in terms of gold, copper, oil, gas, timber and the untapped fishery which Australia is benefiting on Great Barrier Reef including the monetary wealth and so we should have a voice in NEC.
I cannot understand why Prime Minister James Marape overlooked our mandated elected leaders, even though the three MPs from Western voted for him and, instead gave ministries to some of those who did not even vote for him on the floor of Parliament a history in PNG politics.
Like Pais Wingti said on the floor of Parliament, we seem to have short memories and therefore, unable to acknowledge and appreciate how this country developed to the stage where we are now.
Let me remind the Prime Minister that when the Bougainville mine closed down due to the crisis there, PNG survived through OK Tedi mine and still a major contributor to the national purse up to now.
Let me further remind the prime minister that the people of Western brought in spiritual and physical developments in terms of church workers, teachers and medical workers in to Hela and Southern Highlands to bring you up to where you are now so, we are not that ignorant and lowly educated as you may think.
The people of Western have been the victims of the unfair decisions made by the previous governments where, our wealth has been taken away leaving us with no real developments.
I now call upon Marape government to respect the people of Western and give back what rightly belongs to us.
Do not take us for granted that we are silent people and do not know what is happening there.
We are watching and we know where our wealth and investments are.
Any attempts to lay your hands on our wealth would mean that, you deliberately missed us out on the ministry so this can be done unnoticed.
This could further inflict the sores that the previous governments put to the people of Western.

  • Lets not get too low by asking Prime Minister for a ministry because our province is rich with natural resources and other shallow thinking rationale. Ministry is allocated on the following criteria: party alignment , education and experience credentials and can that candidate able to run a ministry ( country level). Now , look at our members, do they fall within this parameters? We will be treated as such until one day if we have leaders of some calibers who may be allocated in future politics.
