WESTPAC yesterday apologised to its customers who were inconvenienced when they tried to use Eftpos and ATMs last week.

In a statement, Westpac PNG head of corporate and commercial banking Donald Hallam attributed the outage to interchange link issues between two local banks.

He said Westpac regreted any inconvenience experienced by its business and retail customers who might have had difficulties accessing cash via Eftpos and ATMs last week.

“We have made it our priority to fix the issue affecting our systems, and I’m very pleased to report that all our Eftpos and ATMs were operational again as of the morning of last Wednesday,” Hallam said.

“We’re now planning further enhancements to strengthen our platforms in the event of any issues occurring in the external market in the future,” he added.

“While unfortunately this issue was outside of our direct control, there’s always more we can do to protect our customers from being impacted by these events.”

Westpac PNG’s head of retail banking Adam Downie said the bank keeps the importance of providing its valued customers with superior banking services at the front of its mind, every day.
