WESTPAC will launch its mobile banking product in the country within the year, an officer said.
Chief operating officer Wayne Beckley said from Australia yesterday the bank rolled out the product in The Solomon Islands and proved to be a ‘hit’ with customers.
He said: “We are very excited about this as well.
“Our new ‘banking on the go’ mobile product will be launched later this year in PNG but we are still locking down the dates”
During his visit to Port Moresby, Beckley said Westpac would install more ATMs this year easier banking.
He said this was aimed at aggressively expanding its ATM footprint in several other locations in the country.
In light of its partnership with Kina Finance which resulted in the launching of the EsiLoan cash card last Friday, Beckley said this was the first product of its nature to be rolled out outside of Australia.
“The card (EsiLoan cash card), which is reloadable can be used at EFTPOS and ATMS and get account balances and notifications via SMS of any top- up activity.
“We (Westpac) are not doing this at present in any other markets including Australia.,” Beckley said.
