Wewak gears up for 37th open

WEWAK Golf Club has begun preparations for their 37th annual Sepik Open Golf Tournament with long-time sponsor  Ela Motors retained, club president Mike McCulley said from Wewak yesterday.
The 36-hole event will be held on Sept 8-9 with registration beginning at the clubhouse on the preceding Friday at 4pm.
Historically, the tournament is held in mid August every year.
However this year, due to heavy rainfall and flooding, the tournament has been put back a few weeks.
He said he was hopeful that many golfers from across the country would take the opportunity to not only play in the tournament but also visit and experience the province.
Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare has been the guest of honour  in past opens.
The entry fee will remain at K100 and will include two days’ meals and Sunday night’s dinner prior to the awards ceremony.
