Wewak hospital turns away X-ray patients
The National, Wednesday 18th April 2012
WEWAK General Hospital is sending away patients seeking X-rays because its machine is not working.
X-ray department officer-in-charge Robin Gawi said the problem started last September.
He said technicians tried to fix the machine, but they could not identify the problem.
The EBOS Health and Science Company was contracted to work on the machine.
“We are sending away patients seeking X-rays. However, the doctors in the hospital are trying their very best to attend to the patients wanting an X-ray,” Gawi said.
He said the new X-ray automatic film processor machine worth K89,000 was donated to the hospital by the Sepik Iron Man events committee recently but was of no help because it needed to operate together with the X-ray machine.
Gawi did not say how long it would take technicians to repair the machine.
He said it would take some time for them to identify the problem and fix it.
