THE Wewak rural local level government in East Sepik is educating locals on prudent financial management to help them venture into medium and small scale business activities.

The local level government started with training on project proposal writing and cash flow at Wom village, west of Wewak, recently.

The 21 participants were later presented with certificates.

The training was facilitated by Judith Samek of Zeoli Samek Consultants in partnership with the LLG.

LLG president Francis Hevu urged the participants to set the foundation for economic development in the area.

“This village hosts the Japanese World War II surrender park, one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, corals, fish, mangroves and shells,” he said.

“Guests who want to enjoy fresh air and relax by the beach will always want to come here and there is opportunity for you to venture into guest house business.

“I encourage you all to have confidence in yourself, start whatever small business you want and move on with life.”

Hevu promised to provide a seed capital of K3,000 for the participants.

East Sepik Fisheries Cooperative Association chairman Paul Simbago said he would use the society network to help them if they wished to venture into fishing.

Ward councillor Augustine Jolly thanked Hevu for providing the seed money for the participants to start small businesses.

The training would cover the 27 wards in the Wewak Rural LLG.
