WEWAK town mayor Peter Saun has expressed concern at the ongoing market ownership and informal sector relocation issues following the ransacking of vendors’ items outside the Laura Martin Market, Wewak in East Sepik, last Wednesday.
He is now seeking legal advice in order to resolve the matter.
He said the land the market was located on belonged to the town commission but project management was depriving them their right of taking ownership of the market.
He said he wanted copies of market reports and asked the provincial administration to fast-track audits so that the matter was resolved legally.
Saun said there was not much land in the Wewak urban areas for the informal sector but the commission has asked through the JDPBPC for funds to set aside an area for the sector.
He said they had identified a separate venue for those in the informal sector but they still needed money to set up their market.
