WEWAK has been focusing on infrastructure development, according to MP Kevin Isifu, pictured.
He yesterday submitted his K10 million district services improvement programme (DSIP) acquittal report for 2018 to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD).
Isufu said K7.3 million alone was spent on infrastructure projects with the balance of K2.5 million carried forward to 2019.
“All the DSIP funds for Wewak district have been committed and expanded to each sector strictly by DDA resolutions,” he said.
“All projects were delivered to expectations.
“Some of the projects were outstanding and all the payments and receipts to service providers have also been attached as part of this acquittal process.
“We expect the same returns to be submitted in 2019.
“We look forward to working with you and your department in ensuring that we follow the necessary guidelines for the DSIP.
“We understand that DSIP funds are purposely development funds, project monies given to different sectors in the provinces and districts.
“We will ensure this money is properly managed so that it can achieve the necessary outcomes and serve the priorities that we have in our district.”
Acting DIRD secretary Aihi Vaki commended the Government for the decision to have the services improvement programme funds parked at the department.
“This is where we can see the difference between disbursement and the acquittals of funds,” he said.
“In that way, we can determine whether there were discrepancies.
“We thank the Government for putting money to rural areas because that’s where development should be happening.
“The administering of these funds goes down to the leadership and the administration.
“If you are not doing the right thing, your people will be making noises.”
