Wewak teams dominate Ironman

 RESIDENCE of Wewak turned up in numbers to witness the 10th Sepik Ironman Triathlon on Sunday morning.

According to the organisers a total of K61,000 in prize money. 

Digicel has been a sponsor of this annual event since 2010. 

This year the telecommunication company sponsored the first prize of K10,000. 

For 2013, the first place went to the boys from Turubu, East Sepik, Team Igoigo. 

Igoigo’s start runner was Skene Kiage of Lae, their swimmer was Sylvester Naman, their cyclist  was Rex Kelly and the finish runner was Jobie Benson. 

The team took 1 hour 15 minutes to complete the course.

The second prize of K7,500 went to team Thomotiha, also from Wewak, who clocked a time of 1 hour 30 minutes. 

Third place was another local group, Team Yoshuan with a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 40 seconds. 

They took home K5,000. 

The second and third prizes were sponsored by the National Fisheries Authority and the National Development Bank respectively.

A total of 68 teams paid but only 62 teams participated. 

Most teams were from Wewak. There were a total of seven women’s teams and nine school teams ranging from the under-12s to secondary school students.
