Iā€ˆREFER to your recent reports about the deadly Newcastle disease.
I am a chicken farmer and I am worried about this disease making its way to Papua New Guinea.
As there are not many reports about this disease in the past, I admit that I am worried and in the dark.
I would say I know more about the bird flu H5N1 than I know about Newcastle disease.
As far as I am concerned, the PIA and NAQIA can fight till the cows come home.
What I want to know is what must I do to protect
my birds and how can I go about doing that?
I know that bird flu is passed on by migrating wild birds as they escape the approaching winter in the northern hemisphere.
I also know that many chicken farmers in Asia lost a lot of money when they had to cull their birds because of bird flu and to prevent the flu from spreading.
I also know that bird flu can sometimes be passed on to human beings.
Can the Newcastle disease do that too?
I call on the authorities in PNG to come out and explain about the Newcastle disease.
