WhatsApp messages land man in court for attempted murder

A 31-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the Goroka District Court with attempting to kill his wife who was allegedly having marital affairs.
Roy Joseph, from Manus’ Bulihan village, appeared before the court charged with one count of attempted murder.
Information before the court stated that on the night of April 15 at West Goroka Primary School, Joseph accused his wife of having an extra-marital affairs with man while he was away in Port Moresby attending a course.
Joseph continuously pressured his wife to tell him everything between her and the man, but the wife denied having an affair.
Joseph then allegedly grabbed a ceramic cup and threw it at his wife but missed her. On his second and third throws, he hit the right side of her head.
It was alleged that he grabbed his wife by the neck while searching for a knife but he pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed her.
Joseph then grabbed a long metal-umbrella stand and hit his wife on the back and abdomen.
The wife later reported the matter the police.
Police picked up Joseph while he was in town, brought him to the police station and had him formerly arrested.
Joseph said WhatsApp messages on his wife’s mobile phone proved that she had been having affairs.
The court adjourned the case to May 28.
