When violence is prevalent

Letters

ALL forms of violence are now prevalent in nearly all communities in our beautiful country of Papua New Guinea.
The brave victims report the matters to law enforcement agencies and are attended to and the perpetrators face court and are punished. These are reported in our daily newspapers and television.
What about the many that are not being reported, especially where women and children are victims.
I feel and believe the government should fund awareness campaigns nationwide in tertiary institutions, secondary schools, villages and settlements, and government and private organisations, as it did with HIV/AIDS.
The government had passed laws, like family sexual violence, Lukautim Pikinini Act, etc, but not enough awareness campaigns is being conducted countrywide.
Every family in our communities must be educated to begin the campaign in their own homes. Community participation should be given priority.
I challenge our good politicians to talk about these problems in the next Parliament sitting and assist us all fight violence.
