Where were the education officers?

Letters

AS a concerned educationist, I witnessed a standard-based curriculum (SBC) in-service training course in Bewani, West Sepik, during the holiday week. It was run solely by teachers and the absence of any education representatives was conspicuous.
It is a bad to see only teachers conducting a programme that is supposed to be supported by the provincial education office.
If you get your priorities right, there were over 30 teachers waiting for your physical attendance to equip themselves with the new SBC concepts as intended by the government, but you had other priorities and ignored the need to develop the education of our West Sepik children.
You seem to be paying attention to the wrong priorities even though you are well versed with the TSC code of conduct on teacher performance.
Despite your absence, the in-service course was successful.
Now you can be praised by the education department at the expense of simple hard-working teachers whose effort ensured the SBC rollout will produce positive outcomes.
I commend Elo head teacher Simon Ariman and the teachers from Pagei cluster for the work.
To the education minister, it is high time you reconsider the appointments of the senior education officers in the province.
Despite the introduction of SBC in the province, the education standard will still fall due to negligence by the education officers.
Keep the committed and drown the regular flyers.
