Whistleblower law commended

Letters

I EXPRESS my gratitude for the good work of the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission under the leadership of Dr Eric Kwa for the progress they have achieved in the drafting of the law to protect whistleblowers in the country.
I think we should review all our laws to bring them up to date to safeguard of our assets, resources and economy from corrupt pratices.
So much damage has been done since independence, and although we have been blessed with an abundance of resources we are still poor in terms of real development.
Our people in the rural areas still don’t have basic services because our MPs are unable to deliver them.
Ordinary citizens of this beautiful country have been willing to report corrupt practices by politicians and their cronies, but have been unable to because of fear. The introduction of this protection bill will ease much of the doubt.
This protection law will also create and strengthen existing policies and procedures in the government system, and will create good governance practices.
I suggest we rotate all the departmental heads and senior sectional heads every three years because when they stay too long in the same position they develop their own empires and can become corrupt.
Therefore, I ask the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission to look into our existing public service employment laws and make amendments, if possible, to address this issue because I believe this is one of the contributing factors to corruption in this country. Now we are closely watching every move taken by our MPs, administrators and departmental heads and public servants.
We need to put an end to this evil in our government systems.
