THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended safe food and hygiene practices for travellers around the world to prevent the spread of illnesses such as the Coronavirus.
Chief Commissioner of the PNG Accidents Investigation Commission Hubert Namani said measures had to be taken to reduce the risks for international travellers.
Hygiene and safe food practices include:

  • Frequently cleaning hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue, and throw tissue away immediately and wash hands;
  • Avoiding close contact with anyone who has fever and cough;
  • seeking medical care early and sharing previous travel history with health care provider;
  • When visiting markets in areas experiencing cases of novel coronavirus, avoid unprotected contact with live animals;
  • avoiding the consumption of raw or undercooked animal products.

“In relation to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China, the organisation (WHO) has disseminated various measures to prevent and contain the outbreak,” he said.
