Who released men accused of killing the pastor?

Letters

THE Police Internal Directorate should investigate the officer who released three suspects in the murder of church pastor Paul Ame, of Woginara No.2 village, in West Coast Dagua, East Sepik.
The suspects had been charged, but for some reason the arresting officer released them.
On Oct 14, a group of 23 armed men went up to the village and attacked the pastor and another man by the name of Paul Aimus.
The victims were surprised and were not prepared for the attack.
The attackers were armed with guns, bush knives and other offensive weapons.
They then blocked off the only excess road to the health centre at Dagua by cutting down a coconut tree.
When village councillor Albert Sasame took the injured for treatment, the car was stoned and told to go back or they would be shot.
The two men were taken back to the village and the pastor died from loss of blood.
The other man was rescused the next day by relatives in Wewak who also removed the roadblock.
The matter was reported to police in Wewak but little was done to arrest the suspects.
It was a serious case and police should have attended to it immediately.
Wewak MP and Inter-Government Relations Minister Kevin Isifu donated some money and two cars for operations along the West Coast Dagua area. One of those cars was involved in an accident.
We, the people of Woginara No 2, want the police in Wewak to arrest the 23 men involved.
They were armed when they went up to our village and attacked the pastor and his brother.
Through village mediation, three suspects surrendered to police on Oct 20. They were charged, but for some reason the arresting officer released them from police custody.
The situation is still tense and the people of Woginara demand that police do their constitutional duties without fear or favour to bring justice to the communities.
