AFTER many years the Western Highlands government has come to the aid of Baisu jail and donated a new 25-seater Coaster bus to the Correctional officers, prisoners and the families to do welfare and administration work in Mt Hagen last Friday .
Governor Tom Olga while presenting bus said the donation was part the development plan known as Hagen Kona Kai for  all law and order agencies to work together to improve law and order to make the city a better place.
He said: “Let us get our mindsets right so that we can work together with the Law and Justice Sector and make our province trouble free so that outsiders can do business freely without fear.
Olga said a prison was not a bad place but a place where offenders are sent to be rehabilitated and can go out in the community as reformed persons.
He urged the prisoners to cooperate with the jail management so some of the low risk prisoner could be engaged in the Hagen Kona Kai programme in city beautification.
“When nil prison escape in the jail then we can see more changes in the prison and seen that people living in the communities will not live in fear and business houses will also have safe place to invest money in the province,” Olga said.
He told the prisoners to become good citizen.
Olga said politicians could make decisions at the political level for the people but it was up to the individuals to implement the decisions.
Provincial law and order committee chairman David Maip who was once an inmate shared the same sentiment and said,  “we must respect the country law and work together so that we get forward with the government’s vision 2050 plan.
Baisu commanding officer Chief Supt Simon Sobaim thanked Olga and the provincial executive council members for donating the bus.
