THE Western Highlands provincial government has agreed to replace a collapsed bridge at Bunum Wo in Jiwaka that links Waghi Valley High School to the surrounding communities.
Governor Tom Olga made the promise to rebuild the bridge after an approach by Banz local level government president and provincial works chairman Dorum Mek.
Olga said although the bridge, which collapsed last December, was in the new province, the Western Highlands provincial government would continue to fund such basic services in the province while it was still a part of Western Highlands.
Mek said replacing the bridge would greatly benefit the school and the local community.
The school’s principal Jonathan Kamano thanked Olga for the assistance.
He added that the bridge was the lifeline for the school and the community.
