MUN Catholic-run health centre in Dei district, Western Highlands, received a new ambulance last Thursday from the district administration.

The ambulance was bought by the former MP Puri Ruing but due election commitments, it was not delivered to the health centre on time.

Current MP Wesley Nukundi intervened to have it delivered to the health centre last week by district administrator Steven Korowa. Also present were Western Highlands provincial health authority chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa and Catholic health secretary Sr Divya Annakutty.

Korowa said Nukundi had committed K2 million on health in the district.

He said the ambulance was bought by former MP Ruing but with the election commitments, they did not have much time to deliver it.

Korowa said people in the district had blamed him for the delay and told him to sell the ambulance.

He said the vehicle was bought by the district and he had no right to sell it. It was parked at the Ela Motors car yard for more than a year.

“I want to thank my member Nukundi for delivering this vehicle to the health centre now,” he said.

Provincial health authority CEO Dr Kintwa said the ambulance would save a lot of lives.

Kintwa also thanked all Church denominations for providing health services in the province.

“This is part of extending one of our priorities in health where we have been trying all our best to save many lives as we can,” Kintwa said.
