WHP police kickstart operations

Highlands, Normal

WESTERN Highlands police kickstarted their Christmas and New Year operations in the province last Wednesday.
About 300 police personnel are engaged in the operation to ensure there is order in the province and people celebrate the festive seasons peacefully.
Metropolitan commander Chief Insp Peter Roari said yesterday that they would put roadblocks at various sections of the road checking for illegal drugs, offensive weapons, unregistered vehicles, worn-out tyres, overloading and other defects vehicles on the road.
Mr Roari said apart from this they would monitor the liquor outlets very closely.
He said all licensed liquor outlets must strictly adhere to the trading hours and must make sure their clients stay indoors and have their drinks.
He warned that any one seen drinking beer at the car park or on the road side would face the full force of the law.
Mr Roari said in the past, accidents and trouble were caused by people who were under the influence of alcohol.
He also said families planning to celebrate the festive seasons must stay inside their own premises.
