Why delay in payment?
The National, Tuesday 28th Febuary 2012
IT is imperative for the government to intervene to speed up road im-provement payments to people living along the 20m corridor along the Sirunki- Laiagam section of the Highlands Highway.
The frustration over
the delay in payment
has compelled people to take the law into to their own hands by setting up illegal road blocks in Enga.
The ADB-funded road sealing by Lorma construction has been completed but the Department of Works has failed to
honour its commitment to make payments.
We, the beneficiaries, have sent several letters to the department as well to several ministers but our requests have fallen on deaf ears.
We feel we have exhausted every avenue in pursuing this case, and now it is only fitting for
us to seek the ultimate intervention by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his deputy Belden Namah to speed up this payment as many old men and women who are beneficiaries of the payment are passing on.
The last resort would be to completely shut off the said section of the Highlands Highway if nothing prevails come election time.
