Why rush into implementing e-ID?

I AGREE that PNG should have an e-ID system for easier planning and voting.

But as stated by Marsh Narewec in his letter, protection and security of data are questionable (April 5).

The government and NSO should not have rushed into implementing the e-ID or biometric system.

They did not put out an open tender for the best and most appropriate solution from reputable companies worldwide.

Instead, they engaged Huawei, a Chinese company that the US, Australian and other western governments are accusing of spying.

The US government is investigating whether the company is using its telecommunication equipment to access data.

I would not be surprised if our personal data end up in China.
