Why the fuss over Jack Pidik Park?

Letters

THE issue at Port Moresby’s Jack Pidik Park has been a mess from the start.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop is working on his mandate to plan and protect the city, but his priorities seem to be all over the place.
Port Moresby has so many areas that need attention.
Why is this piece of land that appears to have been lawfully transferred to its owner, such a priority for the National Capital Commission?
The governor isn’t stopping foreigners from building illegally around the city.
He isn’t protesting about the land next to Jack Pidik Park that is a very questionable issue and now sits idle.
Parkop isn’t tearing down the eyesore casino site at 4-Mile.
What about the illegal fences that go up everywhere near Waigani up on the hills? What about the foreign buildings that are built over the top of drains in clear violation of any physical planning guidelines?
What about the developments around the city that have been started but never finished?
Why is this issue getting so much attention and passion from the governor?
Instead of the passion and cost being directed at this piece of land that is only used by car dealers and other traders, direct this passion to fix the lighting around the city so our women are safe.
Start addressing the serious traffic issues that are attracting crime in congestion spots.
Clean up the mess in the areas around Manu, Gordon, Tokarara or Waigani.
There is so much to address.
Let the owners of this land do something with it.
The commission should focus on real issues.
