Wife of auxilliary cop slashed to death

 THE wife of an auxilliary policeman was slashed to death in an attempted rape at a village in Chimbu last Monday.

Julie Maine, 32, was walking back to her Barnige village in Gembogyl from Kundiawa, when the assailant struck.

She tried to fight off the attacker who then slashed her with a bush-knife.

Her screams alerted villagers but the assailant had fled.

Maine later died from a loss of blood.

Provincial police chief  Albert Beli said they were looking for a drug addict from the victim’s village.

Meanwhile, police have charged a man with two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly slashed two brothers with a bush-knife in Chimbu’s Chuave district a week ago.

The incident happened after Brackson and Juno Otto were believed to have thrown an empty bottle at Brastey Kihe’s vehicle.

The two brothers were admitted to the Chuave Rural Clinic with head injuries.

Police said Kihe was being held at the Chuave police station for transfer to Kundiawa.
