THE Hela Wigmen say they have a score to settle with reigning champions Lae Tigers when both sides meet in the Digicel Cup grand final in Port Moresby on Sunday.
Wigmen co-captain Agiru John said they were still hurting fom last year’s 4-15 grand final loss to the Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored side.
“We have a score to settle with them and we are going into the game to win the title,” he said.
“We have worked so hard all season to get here.
“The Tigers beat us last year and we don’t want a repeat.
“Our aim is to take the trophy to Hela.”
Wigmen coach Charlie Wabo said there were no injury concerns for his side. “Our preparation has been great and we’ve worked hard all week to get our defence and attack right,” he said.
“We can’t be complacent and expect a repeat of our round-nine win over the Tigers.
“They bounced back from two-straight losses to record a morale-boosting win over minor premiers Rabaul Gurias so they’ll be ready for us.
“We are aiming to go up another notch and compete in every play.”
Meanwhile, Tigers captain Tiger Emere said his team were confident of celebrating their 10th anniversary with a win over Wabo’s men. “The bulk of our players have been together for a while now so we know each other’s game,” he said.
“We are ready for the big one.
“It’s our anniversary and we want to make it count.
“Our sponsor Lae Biscuit Company deserves it.
“We want to retain the title.”
