Wigmen to get stadium

THE Hela government and Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of a home stadium for the Hela Wigmen in Tari.
Managing director Wapu Sonk said his KPHL’s partnership with the Wigmen would continue with the aim of building more lasting goals for the club and the people of Hela.
“We are very proud to be associated with the people of Hela through the Wigmen and congratulations to the people of Hela and everyone else involved in this victory,” he said of the club’s 16-14 Digicel Cup grand final win over the Lae Tigers.
“This MOU is to build some long-term goals for the club which is based in Port Moresby but will relocate to Hela once the facilities are ready.”
Hela governor Philip Undialu said the provincial government had already paid K5 million in their counterpart funding for the MOU with KPHL and would soon announce the relocation of the club from Port Moresby to Hela.
“I welcome KPHL coming on board to co-fund this project so that after this premiership, we want to take the Cup home so the people can get the opportunity to see their club representing them on home soil.
“The Wigmen have been developing young talents and promoting them so wherever you come from, as long as you’re covered under the Wigmen brand, we want to see you going out with flying colours.
“We want to introduce a club culture to promote leaders and businesses.”

  • Its good for Hela Wigmen to build their home ground stadium in Hela but first of all let their people to change their mindset and attitude first by say no more to way back of life.look forward to changes and be civilized or else many lives might lost when hosting games in Hela..too risky.

    • Bomai, you have to be on the ground to assess how risky the place is and people’s overall attitude.
Otherwise, better not to be judgemental without having to set foot there.

Hela’s are among some of the most humble people in PNG. Some just say negative things about the Hela people out of jealousy.

  • What about the Agiru Memorial Stadium, which the Wigmen were promised two years ago? Nobody expected it to materialise because this is PNG and very little which is promised actually occurs here. I expect this new stadium will also be quietly forgotten after the initially funding money disappears into politicians pockets.

  • Mero Dikana, thank you for your comments. We in Hela truly need to change our mindset and attitudes. More needs to be done by our leaders. Tribal fighting, payback killings and build up firearms is one undeniable fact that a lot still needs to be done.

  • Millions of kina want to dump into the drain.? The animal mind set must changed into human mind set and services must reach to some good people.

  • Fine to fund and do all sorts of things and proposed plans for the stadium, but i one for real is im concern for the whole of the so call HELA people that we taking and see changes taking and about to develop in Tari for the HELA, but then can the politician look and spend on much and basic care of the attention like HEALTH and EDUCATION because after seeing other brothers provinces like enga are now well into Educations and Health and we HELA claim to be the OWNER of the so call multi billon dollars project in our mother lands and yet we are way back in terms of basic services which the PMJM and all the elected members of HELA need to address with planning and organization’s project that will benefits the whole populations of HELA,,,,Hela development needs strategy planning of the long term benefit for Hela, Seek advices from the Chief from the opena just the next brother of Hela, Please don’t be grate pretender in the eyes of the Media that Hela is going towards prosperity in future with all sort of proposed ideas for the development of Hela…..Hela have the best people with heart to give and share…all other provinces have they own mistake and weakness also be fair in judging Hela because we Hela are best people compare to other….
