Win surprises father of two

National

ELVIS Iro, from Kasena village of Daulo in Eastern Highlands, almost could not believe his luck this week – he became one of the winners of The National’s weekly masteheads competition.
The good luck could not have been better-timed for the father of two as he had been under pressure to find K280 for his daughter’s school fees. He owed the school K280, he said, and the day the deadline arrived this week, he had just managed to find the money – not knowing he had won K250 in the competition.
He received a pleasant surprise later that day when the newspaper called him to give him the good news. Iro, who works for the Constructional Electrical Service, told The National that he always hoped to win so he started buying the newspaper and submitted entries.
“I have two small children to look after so I have been entering this competition knowing the money I’ll get will help me to pay for my children’s school fees,” Iro said.
“I am very happy and grateful that The National has come up with this because now I can consider myself lucky.”
Similar sentiments were shared by another lucky winner, Vegua Heina, 63, from Central.
‘’I am a second time winner of this competition. “I first entered this draw because one of my grandchildren was telling me to buy her a touch phone and I didn’t have the money”, Heina said.
He said after winning again, he decided to put the money into good use and buy his grandchildren school material and school fees.
